November 2024 Salsa Bangor news

Hello!

It has been FIVE YEARS since the last post here! I am sure you have been eagerly awaiting this one.

Without going into everything that has happened since 2019, I think it is fair to say that Salsa Bangor is thriving in 2024. We have our long-standing Thursday night lessons and social dancing in Rascal’s, Upper Bangor. Thursdays at Salsa Bangor are relaxed, friendly evenings where you can learn salsa steps and partner work, and then try them out straightaway in our lively social, which runs until 11pm. All you need to do is show up and join in. We have three levels of class which are suitable for people who are absolute beginners to people who have been learning for many years. Salsa is something you never stop improving.

We also have a monthly Saturday Salsa Workshop which takes place on the first Saturday of each month in Canolfan Brailsford. This gives people the chance to work more intensely on musicality, body movement, and footwork for three hours in a dance studio – with mirrors. We occasionally get guest teachers over for additional workshops and different styles of dance such as bachata, kizomba, and cha cha cha.

There is a Sunday Social Matinee a couple of times a year in Split Willow, Llanfairfechan. We think that dancing is a wonderful way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon and the fact that dancers from across north Wales and NW England travel to these events shows that many people agree! There are no lessons on Sundays, which means more time and energy for three hours non-stop dancing. Look out for posts on Instagram and Facebook for details of the next one.

We never miss the opportunity to throw a party and our Summer Party 2024 was truly epic. We had afternoon lessons from Michal and Anna of La Suerte Dance School, Manchester and the maestro of the UK salsa scene Mauricio Reyes who taught our pre-party lesson and Dj-ed. We also had Son De La Suerte, an incredible eight piece live band who really took the party to another level. One hundred and fifty dancers from near and far joined us in The Mangagement Centre, Bangor University for an event that we will always remember.

Whenever there is a chance to dress up, we take it with special Thursday night parties such as Halloween and Valentines. Look out for more information on our Christmas salsa plans.

If you want to travel further afield to check out the salsa, bachata, and kizomba nights around the UK, there is often a Salsa Bangor cohort heading that way. It’s great to share lifts to these events as it saves money and the environment, and it’s a chance to get to know each other a bit better. People use the Facebook group to shout out for lifts and there are various messaging groups where you can find fellow travellers too.

We are warm and friendly community run by volunteers, which you will already know if you are part of Salsa Bangor and will soon find out if you come along.

We are planning to send more regular updates from now on – more regular than once every five years anyway.
